Advisory: NEWS RELEASE: FLOOD WARNING FOR THE ROCK RIVER AT AFTON AND LAKE KOSHKONONG

The National Weather Service has issued a River Flood Warning for the Rock River at Lake Koshkonong and Afton in Rock County.

Rock River at Lake Koshkonong:
The Rock River at Lake Koshkonong is forecasted to reach minor flooding levels by Monday and continue to rise through Tuesday, with further rises possible. The National Weather Service calculates the impact of flooding to affect homes and boat landings in the Blackhawk Island area where the Rock River feeds into Lake Koshkonong.
Current Levels: 8.4 feet (2:15 am Saturday, February 24, 2018)
Minor Flood Stage: 10.0 feet
Forecast: 10.2 feet by Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Rock River at Afton, WI:
The Rock River at Afton is forecasted to reach minor flooding levels by Sunday and continue to rise through Tuesday, with further rises possible. The National Weather Service calculates the impact of flooding t o affect homes on S. Christianson Road and Happy Hollow Park. Minor erosional flood damage to low lying areas and agricultural land in Janesville and Afton is anticipated.
Current Levels: 8.1 feet (2:15 am Saturday, February 24, 2018)
Minor Flood Stage: 9.0 feet
Forecast: 9.4 feet by Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Sandbags to Rock County Residents at No Charge:
Immediately following the substantial precipitation last week, sandbags were positioned for citizens, free of charge in several locations within Rock County. These sites will continue to provide Rock County residents with sandbags, as flooding continues to impact low lying areas throughout the area.

Citizens can pick up sandbags at the following sites:
• Rock Town Hall: Sand and sandbags will be available at the Rock Town Hall at 5102 S CTH D, Afton WI. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags. Residents can access this location during weekend hours.

• Newville Park and Ride: Sand and sandbags will be available at the Newville Park and Ride located off I-39/90 at exit 163. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags. Residents can access this location during weekend hours.

• City of Janesville: The City of Janesville is providing sandbags for Rock County residents at 900 N. Parker Drive. Please call the City Services Center at 608-755-3110 for instructions on pickup.

• City of Beloit: The City of Beloit is providing sandbags at 2351 Springbrook Court. Residents can pick up at this location. The City of Beloit will provide sand to Beloit residents only.

As we enter the annual flooding season, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Management Bureau continues to work with local response agencies in the planning, response and recovery to local emergencies, including flooding and severe weather.

Please continue to report any immediate, hazardous conditions related to the flooding to Rock County Communications at 608-757-2244. All other concerns related to the current flood situation
should be reported to the respective townships or through the Rock County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Management Bureau at 608-758-8440. Citizens are also encouraged to email the Emergency Management Bureau at kohler@co.rock.wi.us to share any concerns and damages.
